_ 「年末、温泉旅行せん？」さっちゃんからのお誘いがあった。
_ さっちゃん。・・・私の幼ななじみで今は広島で看護師さんやってる。顔はヒトトヨウ（漢字わからんけど、カタカナで書くとなんか珍動物ちっくやね）とか持田香織に似た美人さんなんやけど、なんせ辛口でおもろい。
_ 小中高と一緒によう遊んどったけど、この５−６年ぜんぜん連絡とってなかった。けど去年からさっちゃんが帰省したときにあったりメールするようになった。そんな中、上記のようなお誘いがあった。大人になってから、昔の幼馴染と旅行するなんて、なんか素敵だわぁと思いその話にのった。
_ 温泉地はホントは黒川や湯布院など人気の場所が良かったのだけど宿が取れなかった。で、最近友人や姉が天瀬がいいといってたので適当なノリで天瀬温泉にした。宿は私が姉に頼んで探してもらい、これまたざっくり適当に”○風荘”にした。ＨＰを見た限りではいいかんじだし、１泊２食露天風呂付で１万円。まあ、はずれはないんじゃないかと早速予約。しかしすでに、惨劇のカウントダウンは静かに始まっていた・・。
_ さっちゃんに車を出してもらい、出発した。思い出話に花が咲き、車内はええかんじの盛り上がりをみせた。そういえば、さっちゃんとは家が近すぎてどこかに一緒に遠出したことなかったっけ？感慨深いわぁ・・私のしらん高校卒業後のさっちゃんの話は想像以上に面白く、この人基本的に変わってないのうとしみじみ感じ入った。こういういいとしになった女同士の旅ってなんか月９ぽいわぁーー勝手に悦に入る。そうしてるうちにさっちゃんカーは、天瀬温泉街に入っていった。
_ 温泉・・街？さびれきって人っ気もなく、くすんだ宿が点在するこの土地は温泉街というのはあまりにもおこがましい。なんだか嫌な予感が抑えきれぬ私たちは目的の宿を探そうとしたが、いとも簡単にそこに○風荘は表れた。が、その宿はＨＰとは全く表情を異としていた。
_ 一旦、宿の前を通り過ぎ、車を止めた・・。しばし間があった。「○風荘って、あれ・・よ・・ね？」不安気に聞くさっちゃん。宿を選んだ当本人としてのプレッシャーをいきなりズシリと感じる。「・・そうやない・・？」
_ 言葉少なに車を停め、宿に向かう私たち。そう、すでにそのときには私たちは答えを知っていた、「完璧、はずしたぁぁ・・・」
_ 顔面引きつり気味の私たちを、パンフレットの着物姿とは似ても似つかぬピンクのエプロンを着たころころしたおかんが迎えいれた。・・・・私たちはもう後には引けなかった。（天瀬哀歌２につづく）
